Upstream: Franklinville Upper Dam
80-8 Andrew Hunter Road Bridge
Downstream: Pedestrian Bridge
Brazier (1833) seems to show a ford in the river here just above what must have been the Morris/Coffin Gristmill. The Interstate Commerce Commission valuation files in the National Archives show (shortly after the turn of the 20th Century) a wooden bridge just above the dam and a steel truss bridge just below the dam and just above a 2 story brick mill building. This bridge is shown on the 1938 Highway map, but the 1919 USPS map seems to show two bridges in this vicinity. This bridge is mentioned in the 1910 inventory of bridges in Fox (1993) and a photo of a covered bridge is included in the book. According to the Asheboro Courier (1-18-1918) the bridge here was built by Col. Thomas Rice in 1844.
