The Cedar Falls Lower Mill

Page history last edited by Mark Chilton 16 years, 2 months ago

Upstream: Loflin Pond Road Bridge

82-7 The Cedar Falls Lower Mill

Downstream: Franklinville Upper Dam

Cedar Falls Manufacturing Co. built this second mill in 1895. A cotton gin and a grist mill were still a part of this operation at that time. Some evidence of an old dam is apparent on aerial photos here, but Swain (1899) does not mention a dam here. Saville (1924) calls this Sapona Mills Dam #2, so there must have been a dam at one time. Swain (1880) says there was a gristmill here owned by Cedar Falls Manf. This 1851 dam was 8' high and still standing in 1880.
