Upstream: Union Factory (Randleman)
US 220 Business Bridge
Downstream: Naomi Falls
The Randolph Historical Map shows the Native Trading Path crossing the Deep at Randleman. Rowan Ct Min for Jul 1766 direct Thomas Dickey to “clear out the upper ford” along the Trading Path, which presumably refers to this spot.
Hughes (1988) reports that an early bridge at Randleman was washed away in Sherman’s Freshet in March of 1865, presumably that bridge had been here rather than down at Mill Street. This bridge is shown on both the 1919 USPS map and the 1938 Highway map. This bridge is mentioned in the 1910 inventory of bridges in Fox (1993) and a photo of a covered bridge is included in the book.
